Grub Timer and Remove unwanted version from boot-list.

This might be really short stuff about changing the grub timer and removing the unwanted version showing at boot time!
Well it happened after 6 months i am unofficially using Ubuntu 8.0 in my system. Before any one starts to think what is GRUB, things what I’m trying to write lets go to googling part:
What is GRUB: go here to check ->

I often use Windows as primary operating system , but now as i have all the time in world , therefore i thought to play with python in my Ubuntu. of-course after six months many kernel updates have been released in fact there is Ubuntu 10.something out there.
So don’t waste your time and grab a newer copy of Ubuntu yourself Cos I’m lazy to change operating system as it is serving my purpose i.e irssi , P2P and some scripting fun. 🙂

quick things now i ran up with command in terminal ->
sudo apt-get install updates

After 10 mins things were ready by that time i have eaten piece of bread and drank cup of coffee.
Restarted my system and volaa! I want to change now boot time and also remove those previous version of Ubuntu showing at boot time.

So here is the proper link more about Ubuntu.GRUB
-> https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto

Below is what i did in command terminal
cd /boot/grub
sudo nano menu.lst

and change the value of “timeout” 10 to 18 (in seconds)
which looks like this in the file
## timeout sec
# Set a timeout, in SEC seconds, before automatically booting the default entry
# (normally the first entry defined).
timeout 18

Other unwanted version to be hidden from display just putted the # ‘hash’ in the beginning of lines , which might looks like this

#title Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-21-generic (recovery mode)
#root (hd0,5)
#kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-21-generic #root=UUID=8af8c627-1eaa-4307-8b00-3d30e4bb55f6 ro single
#initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-21-generic

#title Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-19-generic
#root (hd0,5)
#kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-19-generic #root=UUID=8af8c627-1eaa-4307-8b00-3d30e4bb55f6 ro quiet #splash
#initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-19-generic

So thats it “Always make sure to have backup of files” before editing or changing stuff 🙂
